New Canton Police Patrol Zones

Today, the Police Department implemented a new Zone / Beat operational system for Officers to utilize during their patrols of the City. The old system featured four (4) Patrol Zones for the nearly fourteen and a half (14.5) square miles of Canton.

The updated Patrol Zones will feature three (3) areas.

Zone (1) will be the area north of Etowah River and Riverstone Parkway;

Zone (2) will be the area south of Etowah River which includes Marietta Hwy and Hickory Flat Highway south to Exit 14 at 1-575;

Zone (3) will be the area covering downtown to include Cumming Hwy, Canton Marketplace and Northside Hospital – Cherokee.

As the agency works to add more Officers in the future, the plan is to separate the newly formatted zones into Patrol Beats. This will give Officers a smaller area to cover as it relates to calls for service, proactive efforts, community engagement and crime prevention. The agency will assess the new system over a ninety (90) day period in order to make additional adjustments if needed.

Police Chief Mark J. Mitchell stated, "We strongly believe this new arrangement of Zones and Beats has many benefits for the community and our department. The goal behind the design is to afford us the opportunity to be closer to calls for service and for our Officers to be seen more in all of the areas of our Community for strengthened citizen engagement and crime reduction. Additionally, our staff has researched our calls for service and their locations over the past year, this is an adjustment to meet those needs which will help us better serve our Community."

Chief Mitchell added, "I would like to thank the Supervisors and Officers in the agency who came up with the idea and the work they provided toward this new and improved Patrol initiative. I also want to thank the Cherokee Emergency 911 Center and their staff for their assistance with this new format.”
