Theft by Taking Arrest

On April 21, 2017, the City of Canton Police Department was notified of an ongoing investigation of money being continuously withdrawn from the Cherokee High School Drama Booster Club without authorization.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Michelle Renee Adas withdrew monies from the Booster Club financial accounts without authorization through debit and checking accounts. Adas made the continuous withdraws from October 14, 2015 to February 28, 2017. In total, Adas withdrew $5,260.08 for her own personal gain. Warrants have been secured for Adas’ arrest at this time.

Isabel Amos has been located and is in custody at this time.  We would like to thank our citizens for tips and feedback which was vital to finding her.  


The investigation surrounding the details of this incident is ongoing and further information will be released when available.

On Saturday, April 22, at approximately 3:25 PM, Isabell Amos (14 years old) was dropped by off by a parent at the Summer Club playground (Inside the subdivision of River Green where she lives) to meet a friend.  Her parents have not had contact with her since being dropped off.

Levi's Call

Levi’s Call Update:  The child has been found safe.  The child and father were located by Canton Officers returning to the Canterbury Ridge Apartments at approximately 9:35 pm.


The father, Nathan Benito Zeller is being charged with Family Violence-Criminal Damage to Property (16-7-23)

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has activated a Levi's Call (Georgia's Amber Alert) at the request of the Canton Police Department. The agency is currently conducting an investigation in reference to a child that was taken earlier this afternoon at approximately 4:10 pm., from the Canterbury Ridge Apts (101 Canterbury Ridge Pkwy, Canton, GA 30114) by the noncustodial father. Burglary Arrest

On April 13, 2017, at approximately 12:53 AM, Officers responded to Gabby’s Wireless (301 Marietta Road, Canton GA) in reference to a business alarm call. Officers arrived and observed a side window to the closed business had been broken into.

Due to the swift response, Officers were able to observe fresh footprints in the grass leading from the broken window to a wooded area behind the facility.  This led them to swiftly set up a perimeter to prevent any possible suspect(s) from leaving the area.  A Roswell Police K-9 was called and assisted in a search for person(s) responsible for the crime.

As a result of the search and perimeter containment, a juvenile suspect (15 yrs. old from Canton) was located by the K-9 a short distance from the business and taken into custody.  All of the stolen merchandise was located in an area near where the suspect was apprehended.

Chief Mark J. Mitchell stated, "Our Officer's very quick response, action and teamwork was vital to bringing this crime to a safe and successful resolution.  We are dedicated to not only engaging with those we serve but also proactively suppressing this type of activity in our great Community." He added, "We would like to thank the Roswell Police Department and their K-9 Officer for their support and assistance in this incident."

Coffee with a Cop - Code Enforcement

The Police Department’s next Coffee with a Cop community event will be held on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 8:00 - 10:00 am., at the Dunkin' Donuts located at 121 Marietta Highway, Canton, Ga. This month’s Coffee with a Cop will include our Code Enforcement Officers, Officer Butler and Officer Parker, with the purpose of educating the community on daily Code Enforcement obligations and issues. Coffee with a Cop is an excellent program that continues to allow Officers and citizens to connect, engage and build important trusting relationships that are vital to improving the quality of life for everyone in the community.

Chief Mark J. Mitchell stated, “We strongly believe Coffee with a Cop has become one of the most important monthly programs that we are involved in that is essential to us connecting with the citizens we serve. Given the current tense environment in our nation between communities and law enforcement, we feel this program helps to build a foundation of trust with each segment of our community and continues to grow a very positive culture between our hard-working department and this great city.

“I want to thank our citizens for their support and feedback which greatly assists us in providing better police services and “humanizes the badge” to both adults and children. Our hope is that our citizens will see that we truly care about them, their quality of life, their safety and what goes on in our city,” the Chief continued.

Tagging Arrest

Over the past month, Officers have responded to eight (8) incidents involving tagging / graffiti where individual (s) have spray painted different symbols on both public and private property around the City. Officers and the assigned Detective began to conduct a follow up investigation and were able to positively identify a suspect and also obtain the physical evidence needed to secure arrest warrants for the individual in all eight (8) of these cases. 

On Friday, March 10, 2017, the suspect, Mr. Dawson Wagner age: 17 of  Woodstock, Ga., was arrested, subsequently interviewed and booked into the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Adult Detention Facility for eight (8) counts of Criminal Trespass.        

Canton Police Chief Mark J. Mitchell stated, “Our Officers and investigating Detective worked hard in their response, investigation and arrest of this individual which brought a successful resolution to these criminal acts. This arrest also shows there is no room for this type of activity in our City and furthers our efforts to protect and improve the quality of life for those we serve.”

Multi-Agency Coffee with a Cop

The next Coffee with a Cop community event will be a Multi-Agency program held on Friday, March 24, 2017 from 8:00 - 10:00 am., at Cup Up Coffee located at 210 East Main Street, Canton, Ga. This excellent program will not only include members of our Police Department but will also involve members of the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, Cherokee Marshals Office, Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad, Woodstock Police Department, Holly Springs Police Department, Ball Ground Police Department, Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office, the Cherokee County Solicitor’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol. 

Chief Mark J. Mitchell stated, “All Law Enforcement agencies in Cherokee County strongly feel that community events such as this are essential to us connecting and engaging with the citizens we serve.  We also believe this program will help to build a foundation of trust with each segment of our communities and will grow a very positive culture between our hard working departments and this great County.
